Built by Gustave Eiffel for the 1889 Universal Exhibition celebrating the first centenary of the French Revolution, the Eiffel Tower was built in 2 years, 2 months and 5 days, a real technical and architectural achievement for its time. It was an immediate success. Erected for only 20 years, it was saved by the scientific experiments that Eiffel promoted, in particular the first radiographic and then telecommunication transmissions.

Over the decades, it has seen many feats, extraordinary illuminations and prestigious visitors. The Eiffel Tower is the scene of many international events ( illuminations), the centenary of the Tower, fireworks shows for the year 2000 and for the 120th anniversary of the Tower, painting campaigns, sparkling, colourful Tower, ice rink on the first floor...).
