A monument dedicated to Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette.

Located in the heart of Paris, on Louis XVI Square (8th arrondissement), the Chapelle expiatoire, built during the Restoration, is a place of remembrance dedicated to Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette. It stands on the site of the former parish cemetery of the Madeleine where the King and Queen were buried during the Revolution, as well as the bodies of 500 people condemned to the guillotine, including Charlotte Corday, Olympe de Gouges and Madame du Barry. Built at the request of Louis XVIII between 1816 and 1826, the Chapelle expiatoire is a jewel of neo-classical architecture and Romanticism of the early 19th century.
