Following the call for projects launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on 16 December 2014 the French government signed the destination contract "Normandy/Paris Region: Destination Impressionism".

This ambitious project has been managed by the Paris Region, Upper Normandy and Lower Normandy regions.

Description

The Destination Impressionism contract will heighten the visibility and international standing of Paris Region as a destination, above and beyond its administrative boundaries.

Its goal is to leverage this global brand to unite and galvanise public and private stakeholders, and to promote and develop a high-quality product to meet strong customer demand, particularly from distant countries.

Paris with its Musée d’Orsay, Montmartre, Auvers-sur-Oise, Barbizon... Giverny, Honfleur, Caen, Dieppe, Rouen and Le Havre are all taking centre stage and contributing to raising awareness among culture and tourism stakeholders.

Jean-Paul Huchon, Chairman of the Paris Region Regional Council stated, "Our destination is the best in the world. With impressionism adding so much value, we will be able to win over new visitors, particularly from emerging countries".

And François Navarro, Managing Director of the Paris Region Tourist Board added, "This destination contract will raise the profile of our entire region. From the Musée d'Orsay to Auvers-sur-Oise and from Montmartre to Chatou, their riches will travel the world in the coming months".

Destination Impressionism will be a globally renowned destination

The Paris Region and Normandy Tourist Boards are determined to make impressionism a flagship of France as a tourist destination.

Together they decided to embark upon an ambitious programme based around this key theme.

By virtue of their land, history, culture and geographical location, they committed to a project to restore the Vallée de Seine, which they have now been working on for a number of years.

With history and shared vision as a cornerstone, this commitment by the regions and the tourism potential of impressionism have led them to create a joint message that goes beyond their administrative boundaries.
