Take a step back into the past, during the occupation of Paris... and discover the site of Mont Valérien and the American cemetery at Suresnes, two memorials dedicated to all the brave citizens and soldiers who fought during the First World War and the Second World War in France.

This walking tour is a discovery of the most famous sites in Paris when the capital was occupied by the Germans. It will show you another side of Paris that Parisians experienced during these troubled times. It includes Hôtel Meurice, place Vendôme, the Jeu de Paume in the Tuileries Gardens, Place de la Concorde, the Champs-Elysées, avenue Foch, Trocadéro and Les Invalides.

Then, accompanied by your guide, you will head to the west of Paris to visit the Mont Valérien site as well as the American Cemetery of Suresnes, two memorials dedicated to all the soldiers who fought in the First World War and the Second World War in France:

The visit of historic site Mont Valérien includes:

  • the chemin du souvenir which overlooks the "clearing where the shootings occurred" and enables following the path of the condemned who were executed;

  • the monument bears the names of the firing squad victims and pays tribute to the resistance fighters. "For resistance fighters and hostages shot at Mont Valérien by Nazi troops – 1941-1944 – and those who have not been identified";

  • Mémorial de la France.

Nearby, the American Cemetery of Suresnes covers an area of three hectares and hosts the graves of nearly 1,600 American soldiers who died for France.

With a unique view over Paris, it is the only cemetery in Europe hosting the graves of soldiers who fought in the two world wars.

The cemetery was created in 1917 and inaugurated in 1919.

At the end of World War II, it was decided that this cemetery would be dedicated to the victims of the two world wars and a square of additional graves was created to house the remains of 24 unknown soldiers who died during World War II.

An imposing chapel, surrounded by two memorials dedicated to the memory of the two world wars. The plant and flower environment creates an atmosphere of calm and serenity.
