The Château, with its listed gardens set in 9 hectares of parkland, is an exceptional heritage site. Inside, it hosts an immersive exhibition on the famous painter Vincent Van Gogh, who spent his last days in the village of Auvers.
Given its success, the exhibition devoted to the last four years of Vincent Van Gogh's life has been extended until 2 November 2025.
Set up in the château, the tour takes you from room to room in the footsteps of the famous artist, through an original staging alternating digital projections, reconstructions of settings familiar to the painter and presentations of original works (paintings, engravings, etc.) by 19th-century artists who worked in the same places as him. Van Gogh's works - letters, drawings and paintings - are presented in the form of excellent high-definition digital reproductions.
It retraces the major stages of his stay in France, from his Parisian years with his brother Theo to his escapades in the south, in Arles and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. There is a particular focus on his stay in Auvers-sur-Oise, where he painted almost 75 pictures in less than 70 days.
Van Gogh the traveller changed addresses 36 times in 37 years, nourishing his art with encounters, diverse influences and the places where he lived. His style evolved extremely rapidly, moving from the sombre compositions of his first paintings to canvases in which colours exploded.
