A masterpiece of classical art, Vaux-le-Vicomte is the work of three men of genius: the architect Louis Le Vau, the painter Charles Le Brun and the gardener André Le Nôtre, brought together by Nicolas Fouquet.

A meeting of the arts, good taste and refinement, Vaux-le-Vicomte today reflects French 17th-century way of life. Visit the fully decorated and furnished château, the French garden and the carriage museum. Explore the gardens from an electric buggy and admire the panoramic views from the dome.

Spotlight on Families

This architectural splendour of the 17th century was built for Nicolas Fouquet, Superintendent of Finances in France under King Louis XIV. The Sun King was so impressed by the splendour of this beautiful white stone building and the French gardens designed by Le Nôtre, that he was inspired to build Versailles.

Discover the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte in your own way. Explore the 35 hectares of parkland and admire the beautiful views of the Château and garden from one of the electric buggies which are available for hire. In summer, relive the magic of 17th-century festivities with the Château bathed in the light of thousands of candles and a backdrop of classical music.

Children will love the booklets containing scavenger hunts and puzzles which are included with a child's admission ticket. While the kids are having fun, admire the views from the terrace of the Ecureuil, a self-service restaurant located in a wing of one of the château's outbuildings .
