Paris Region visits Australia and New Zealand…virtually!

at 1 October 2020

Following the closure of our borders to long-haul markets, the Paris Region Tourism Board decided to organise a series of digital activities aimed at maintaining and developing contacts with our network of tour operators and travel agents.

The objective of these activities was to keep in close contact with existing international sales and distribution channels in order to be prepared for when business can begin once again.

With 542,000 stays, the Australian market generated €421 million in tourist revenue in 2019. As a result of the pandemic, the France Workshops and the dedicated PARIS REGION event organised by Atout France in partnership with the CRT that was scheduled for 7th to 11th September 2020 were postponed until September 2021.

The Paris Region Tourism Board, in conjunction with Atout France and with the support of Rail Europe (another key player in this market), hosted two webinars focusing on the latest news in the capital region entitled « UPDATE YOUR PARIS REGION » on 7th and 8th September, which were aimed at tour operators and travel agents from Australia and New Zealand.

Stand-alone newsletters aimed at promoting the tours and new features of our destination, as well as posts on the Rail Europe Facebook groups that include 3,000 travel agents targeted professionals from this part of the world and invited them to sign up via a platform managed by our Promotions and Business Travel department.

The webinar programme:

  • Presentation of our destination, events and latest news.
  • Sanitary measures in place in Paris Ile-de-France.
  • Presentation of the various facilities and tools made available to travel trade professionals by the Paris Region Tourism Board: web site, professional portal, media library…

More than 350 professionals registered and attended these webinar sessions.

The numerous questions, testimonials and words of thanks from our colleagues in Australia and New Zealand showed the unfailing interest that this market has in our capital region, which is eager to once again welcome travellers to France and Paris Ile-de-France.
