Manet / Degas Musée d’Orsay

  • Exhibition

The Musée d'Orsay devotes an exhibition to two great painters: Edouard Manet and Edgar Degas.

The new exhibition at the Musée d'Orsay brings together the two painters Édouard Manet (1832-1883) and Edgar Degas (1834-1917) and sheds light on the contrasts between their work and their complicity.

The exhibition explores the similarities between these two great artists of the 1860s and 1880s, from the subjects that inspired them both to the places, friendships and family circles they frequented.

The exhibition also shows what opposed them: their temperament, their artistic tastes, but also their career choices.

*This exhibition is organised by the Orsay and Orangery museums and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, where it will be presented from September 2023 to January 2024.
