Art Déco: France-America Cité de l'architecture et du patrimoine

  • Exhibition

After "1925, quand l'Art Déco séduit le monde" (1925, when Art Deco seduced the world) in 2013, the Cité de l'architecture et du patrimoine is presenting a new exhibition that seeks to demonstrate the influence of the French 1920s on North America.

Spread over more than 1000m², the exhibition tells the story of the mutual emulation between France and North America that began well before the First World War with the training at the Ecole Nationale de Beaux-Arts in Paris of many American architects who built and furnished Art Deco buildings in New York, Chicago, Montreal ...

Then in 1925, the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris once again conquered America in search of novelties.

From then on, a permanent challenge was set between the two sides of the Atlantic in the worlds of mural painting, sculpture, architecture, the press, sport, aviation, furniture, department shops....
