Mobilising the Region to work in the Korean market

From 27th October to 1st November 2016, a delegation of 8 presidents from the largest travel agencies in Korea was hosted by the CRT Paris Ile-de-France, in partnership with Air France and Atout France Korea. This delegation was headed up by Mr Mooseung YANG, the president of KATA (Korean Association of Travel Agents) and president of the travel agency Tour 2000.

These 8 agencies alone are responsible for 80% of the total Korean clientele to the Paris Ile-de-France destination.

Similar to all Asian markets, Korean visitor numbers have fallen by around 15% for the destination, whilst this particular clientele enjoyed a rise of over 12% in terms of the number of stays during 2015. 

Following the visit of Valérie Pécresse, the president of the Ile-de-France Regional Council, to Seoul in July 2016, the Paris Region Tourism Board played host to this important delegation of presidents and members of KATA (Korean Association of Travel Agents) from Thursday 27th October to Tuesday 1st November 2016 in partnership with Air France and Atout France.

The objectives of this operation were:

  • Reassure Korean professionals about the security of the destination
  • Demonstrate the participation of French public bodies, travel trade and local councils and highlight their motivation in welcoming visitors from across the globe and, most significantly, from Korea itself.
  • Promote and assist in the commercialisation of the destination offer to leading Korean consumers

Over the 6 days, the CRT organised business meetings that brought together travel trade professionals from Korea and from the Paris region at the headquarters of the Ile-de-France Region on Monday 31st October, hosted by Othman Nasrou, vice-president in charge of international action and tourism.

These professionals were also welcomed by Frédéric Valletoux, president of the Comité Régional du Tourisme Paris Ile-de-France, during a lunch held at the Château Bourron, as well as by Patrice Latron, the chief-of-staff of the Prefect of Police of Paris at the Préfecture. During this meeting at the Préfecture, it was highlighted that the most pressing issue was lifting the state of alert currently in place for France.

The professionals were treated to a programme that allowed them to discover the services of Paris Airports, the Groupe Barrière (Le Fouquet’s and Casino Barrière in Enghien-les-Bains), AccorHôtels, the Château de Fontainebleau, the Golf National (Ryder Cup 2018), 4 roues sous 1 parapluie, Trandev « Transport on demand »,  the national Picasso Museum of Paris, the Musée Grévin, La Vallée Village, the VIP services at Printemps Haussmann, the « Paradis à la Folie » show at the cabaret Paradis Latin and a dinner cruise soirée on their last night aboard Bateaux Parisiens. They were also able to meet Chef Guy Savoy.  Equipped with box Travel Wi-Fi, these professionals were able to instantly share their discoveries with their social networks.
This headline operation mobilised the French press and correspondents from the Korean media, evidence of the importance of the Korean clientele for the destination Paris Ile-de-France.

From 4th to 8th October, the destination Paris Ile-de-France was showcased around the theme of Impressionism during the France Korea workshop. 6 partners from the Paris Region were present in the cities of Seoul and Busan, showing that the Korean market is at the heart of the CRT’s plans in 2016.
